There are jacks of all trades and then there are masters of many. Talented artist, Entrepreneur and media maven PJ Owens has proven to be both. As a celebrated performer, his warm voice—much like his style and personality—is known to meld classical soul with a touch of jazz and a signature pop of color.
Notably, his artistry has led him to share stages with industry heavyweights such as Hezekiah Walker, Jill Scott, Tye Tribbett and a host of other acclaimed music talents. Simultaneously, in business, his vision and acumen have seen him launch award-winning projects and guide innovative marketing campaigns for countless clients as creative director and CEO at MUSE Branding & Development Agency.
A native of Philadelphia, Owens began singing at the tender age of 3 at churches throughout the Tri-State area, sharing his gift with all who would hear. “I knew I had a thing for music at a very young age,” he says. “As I got older, it was the connection from my idea, to my pen, to rehearsal, to production, to the release of the song and connecting with the listeners that motivated me…”
By his teens, the majority of Owens’ time was spent on the Joy Unlimited Youth Mass Choir, under the direction of the late John B. Samuel. A young stage veteran, he would go on to become choir director, and eventually VP of the organization through 2017.
During this time, Owens also founded Beyond Prayze Music Group, serving as label home to PJ Owens & Beyond Prayze. The collective released their first full-length album Kingdom Business, Kingdom Authority in the fall of 2008, and on the heels of that project, went on to perform alongside music legends in the gospel arena and beyond, hitting venues ranging from college campuses to political rallies, the Apollo Theater, and Verizon’s “How Sweet the Sound” National Competition.
Aside from his musical accomplishments, Owens also graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of the Arts. It was there he discovered a fiery passion for branding and advertising. Invigorated by newfound possibilities, he then embarked on a remarkable entrepreneurial journey that would see him uplift an array of veteran and aspiring artists, and empower organizations and enterprises new and old with his creative brilliance.
Owens swiftly gained a portfolio of prominent clientele in the media, music, fashion and nonprofit spaces. As a result, he founded MUSE with a mission of “branding from the inside out,” with services such as brand coaching, content curation, artist development and brand education. MUSE officially launched in 2015 with clients including GRAMMY-nominated artists, renowned industry personalities and successful small business entities. Owens received 3 Stellar award Nods for Recorded Music Packaging of the year in 2017 and 2019.
